Job References

Job references/ employment references are vital in the job search process. Your job references need to be favourable. A company will request job references when they are seriously considering you. Most companies require job references from previous employers, not from personal contacts. 

To follow are some job reference tips:

• There is no need to list your references on your resume/ CV.

• Avoid giving out a bad job reference by always checking with your references in advance and letting them know the positions you are aiming for. Each reference should know your employment history, at least briefly. 

• Have a list of your job references & their contact details ready before you attend the job interview. 

• Always thank those who gave you a job reference at the end of your job search. They will appreciate it and remember it next time you need a job reference.
